The One Choice That Will Change Everything

Life is full of choices. They have the ability to shape you and move you along a particular path, parallel with the purpose God has aligned for you. Every day we as Christians are faced with challenges and we all fall short of the glory of God, purely because we are human. Our human nature makes it inevitable for us to fall, but God’s grace is so abundant that at each fall, He picks us up.

As a Good Good Father – no matter how far we’ve stepped, He will invite us back to Him. But most of the time, it seems as if we’re running away from Him. Sometimes temptation can get the better of us and we can lose connection with God – the one authentic connection we often take for granted.

The thing about temptation is that in the moment, it seems real good. Your flesh is in a constant war with the spirit and is totally egging you on. Yet, the moment you allow temptation to get the better of you, you find yourself in a sticky situation.

Suddenly, we feel ourselves falling into the trap of guilt, knowing that we overstepped a boundary of some kind. We instantly regret the choice we made and are left to deal with the consequences of that decision.

We like to blame Eve for taking a bite of the apple, but we all do the same. We already have a good, safe connection with God, but then when we perceive something to be better than what we already have, we tend to disconnect with God and plug ourselves into other connections of this world. But what we don’t realise is that we plug ourselves into an unknown network. A network which is not secure, that we only allow ourselves to be stolen from.

Think about it, we have everything with God. But the moment we disconnect we lose the peace, joy and confidence we once had. When you already have everything and you want more, in the end you can only lose. We allow ourselves to be deceived by a fraud or fake version of the relationship God is offering us.

Some people hop from relationship to relationship in search for validation because they never gave God the opportunity to validate them and instead, they seek that in other people. Some people turn to alcohol and drugs to mask them of the pain and suffering they’re going through but don’t realise that God is looking to heal them whole again. God isn’t a temporary fix to your problems like alcohol and drugs. God will penetrate deep into the places in your life which hurt the most and bandage the wounds, if you let Him.

The thing about God is that He loves us so much that He gave us a choice to choose whether we want to experience and engage with His love or whether we want to dismiss knowing who He says He is. God never forces himself on us. If you don’t initiate conversation with God, He won’t beg for your attention. If you knew someone would ignore you or wouldn't give you the time of day, you wouldn’t then keep chasing them back. God is the same. He desires a relationship but will let you go if you don’t want anything with Him.

It can be hard to want to be committed to God, but feel like you’re the only one. It makes you feel as if you’re missing out on something, when in actuality you are the one with that gift of a secure connection. If anything, everyone else is missing out. Many will then claim to have experienced that true connection with Jesus but how many of those were there from the start?

"Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" - Matthew 7:22

If you desire God, you will desire wanting to know Him better. Out of knowing him you will love Him and serve Him better. When we choose to have this strong, intimate connection with God, we can experience comfort and pure satisfaction. Instead of being robbed, we can only gain from knowing the master and Him knowing our deepest desires.

Therefore, you have a choice whether to connect with God or disconnect with the Way, the Truth & the Life. The minute you disconnect is the minute you can only lose, so pick wisely...
